Varanasi

Varanasi - Worlds apart

I have been twice to the ancient Holy City of Varanasi on the banks of the great River Ganges  in India. Once with my friend Mac in 1983 and again with Carole in 1999 Both times were unforgettable; experiences etched deep in my soul.

I have never spoken to another person who has spent time in Varanasi who has not felt the same deep emotions about the place.

If you look in one direction from the river to the city you see the ancient city going about its Holy pursuit of dealing with the dead. If you look from the city Ghats out towards the river you see a vast open expanse of water dotted with small boats moving serenely about their business.
